Unlike many fair views drawn from ground level, this chromolithograph offers a bird's-eye view of the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition, held in Nashville in 1897. The fair marked 100 years since Tennessee joined the Union in 1796, and it took place in Centennial Park. The Henderson Litho. Co. of Cincinnati produced the print around 1896, ahead of the opening, so it likely reflects the planned layout and buildings as promoters hoped visitors would see them. Bird's-eye views like this were popular as souvenirs and promotional pieces in the 1890s, and they remain useful records of how the fairgrounds were arranged.
