The Commerce Building was one of the exhibition halls at the Tennessee Centennial, the 1897 fair in Nashville that marked the 100th anniversary of Tennessee's admission to the Union in 1796. Stereograph cards like this one, issued by the Keystone View Company, let viewers at home see the grounds in apparent three dimensions through a hand viewer. The fair's buildings stood in Centennial Park and were built as temporary structures, so photographs like this one are an important record of their appearance.
