Cuba's opportunity" is a color lithograph from the J. Ottmann Lithographing Company, dated January 29, 1902, and it was first illustrated in the satirical magazine Puck on January 29, 1901. Its subjects are commerce and the sugar industry, which made Cuba's economy a central concern for American businessmen and policymakers after the Spanish-American War. The island was under United States military administration until May 1902, and debates over sugar tariffs and trade ties with Washington shaped the years that followed. The title suggests the cartoon treats Cuba as a commercial prize, which is worth weighing against the political realities of the period.
