From the Sierra Rocks on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe, this 1866 view looks north over the water toward Rocky Point. It is one half of a stereographic pair, catalogued as no. 682 in the *Gems of California Scenery* series, and the Library holds only this side. Albumen prints like this were sold to Americans who viewed them through a stereoscope at home, which brought the Sierra landscape into parlors far from California. The caption details come from an old card that was later revised, so some specifics may not be fully verified.
