Few streets in the Southwest sat so visibly astride a national boundary as International Street in Nogales, where the American town in Arizona met the Mexican town in Sonora along a single roadway. The Humphries Photo Company of El Paso made the original photograph, and the Albertype Company of Brooklyn reproduced it as a photogravure, a process favored for the souvenir views popular with visitors in the early 1900s. Published in a Nogales souvenir booklet, the view shows a border town where commerce and daily life moved back and forth across the line.
