Dylan, then 23 and already a leading voice of the folk revival, rides a motorcycle down a street with another man seated behind him. This is frame 11 on a contact sheet from a June 1964 Look magazine assignment, so it preserves one of the many shots a photographer made before choosing pictures for publication. Look was one of the country's largest general-interest magazines, and its portraits of emerging musicians offer a glimpse of how the public encountered them. The casual street setting differs from the stage and studio images usually associated with him.
