The subject is a Minuteman statue, a figure with musket and powder horn that appears to stand on or near the Lexington Green, where militia faced British troops on April 19, 1775. The cataloger notes the location is only possibly Lexington, so the identification rests on the statue's form and setting. The Detroit Publishing Company, which likely made this glass negative between 1900 and 1915, produced many views like this for travelers and postcard buyers interested in Revolutionary sites. The upper part of the negative is cracked and taped, a reminder of how fragile these early plates were.
