Piccadilly Circus takes its name from the round open space where several major London streets meet, not from any entertainment, which is worth remembering given how this view is filed. This photochrom print is one of many English scenes the Detroit Publishing Company offered in its 1905 catalog, made by a color process that the Swiss firm Photoglob developed and Detroit sold in the United States. The monument at the center of the junction is the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, topped by the figure often called Eros, which was unveiled in 1893, placing the scene within the decade the record suggests.
