Two images on one sheet show Franklin D. Roosevelt at the desk where he signed the declarations of war, first against Japan on December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and then against Germany on December 11. The pair appeared as halftone reproductions in the *Sunday Star* on January 21, 1945, so the printed page preserves a newspaper's view of wartime leadership three years after the signings. The dates come from a caption card that has not been independently verified, so the sequence is worth checking against other sources.
