Locomotive No. 5629 of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad was built at the company's West Burlington shops in Iowa, where the railroad constructed and rebuilt its own engines. The caption notes that the engine was later modified from its original 0-5-A design to a 0-5-B configuration and was in service on the Lincoln Division in February 1955, though the photograph itself is dated around 1941. Small steam engines of this wheel arrangement typically worked yards and sidings, moving freight cars for the railroad's terminals. The print was issued by the railroad company itself and carries its own reference number.
