Cairo's Mosque of Mohammed el-Worde is the subject of this 1912-era postcard, which captures a religious building set within the busy streets of the Egyptian capital. Postcards like this one were produced commercially in large numbers in the 1910s, when European and American travelers were eager to send home views of Cairo's old Islamic architecture. The "LL" marking in the title suggests a publisher's imprint, a reminder that these cards were made to sell as much as to record. Because such views were often reproduced and reissued, they now serve as useful documents of how Cairo's mosques and streets appeared to outsiders in the years before World War I.
