Gauchos gathered around a game of *taba* are the focus of this reproduction of a painting by F. Molina Campos, who is known for his affectionate, humorous scenes of rural Argentine life. *Taba* was played with the ankle bone of a sheep or cow, which was tossed and scored by the side it landed on, and it was a common pastime on the pampas. The subject list also includes "bones," the clacking wooden or animal-bone percussion instrument, which ties the scene to the same informal, everyday culture of song and play. The picture is a useful record of how gaucho life was pictured in mid-century Argentina.
