A memorial plaque honoring the whaleship *Charles W. Morgan* is the subject here, a tribute to a vessel built in 1841 for the New Bedford whaling fleet. The ship sailed from Massachusetts for most of the nineteenth century, hunting whales across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, and her return in 1921 ended one of the longest working lives in American whaling. Photographed around 1926 by Harry Neyland, the picture records a commemoration made as the age of the American whale fishery was already receding into memory.
