This photograph shows the dining and billiard room aboard HMS *Renown*, a British battlecruiser completed in 1916, and the combined space offers a rare look at the comforts available to officers and guests on a large warship. *Renown* later carried royal and diplomatic passengers in the years after the First World War, and interiors like this one were meant to reassure those passengers about life at sea. The print comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a news photographer whose pictures were circulated to newspapers, so it was likely intended to show a general audience what the ship's interiors looked like in November 1919.
