Few theater posters of the period feature a real city landmark, but this one places the Brooklyn Bridge, which had opened only weeks before the poster's year, against a night harbor crowded with ships. The lithograph was made for *Excelsior*, a historical spectacle staged by the Kiralfy brothers, Imre and Bolossy, Hungarian-born producers known for lavish stage productions. Outstretched pointing fingers in the design direct the eye toward the bridge and the water, a showman's way of drawing a crowd to the theater.
