A camel caravan winds back toward Cairo from the pyramids on the desert edge, captured on a stereograph card that was meant to be viewed through a hand-held stereoscope and seen as a single three-dimensional scene. Around 1903, these cards were a popular parlor and travel product, and the copyright line identifies William H. Rau, a Philadelphia photographer and publisher who produced many views of distant places for sale to American and European audiences. Egypt's pyramids at Giza were a favorite subject for such cards, since visitors arriving by steamer and rail often made the short trip out to the desert to see them. The record notes that its details come from the original caption card and have not been independently verified.
