Shown seated at a desk with a fountain pen in hand, Alvin E. O'Konski faces the camera in this half-length studio portrait. O'Konski, a Wisconsin Republican, entered the U.S. House of Representatives in 1943, and this image dates from between that year and 1953. It was made by Blackstone Studios of New York and belongs to the Library of Congress's Congressional Portrait Collection, which documents members of Congress in the mid-twentieth century. The desk and pen were common props in official portraits of the period, meant to suggest a legislator at work on his papers.
