Titled *Quandry*, this 1943 color serigraph by E. Landon is an abstract work, signed and dated in pencil. Screen printing was still gaining acceptance as a fine art medium in the early 1940s, after the Federal Art Project of the 1930s helped turn the stencil process from a commercial technique into an expressive one. Abstract prints of the decade often relied on flat, overlapping color fields, which suited the medium to experiments with shape and tension. The title hints at the uncertainty many people felt during the war years.
