Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, had been open only about a year and a half when this view was taken on September 28, 1913. The photograph looks across the ballfield toward the bleachers rising in the background, giving a clear sense of how the park was laid out in its early years. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of a news photographer whose pictures were distributed to newspapers in the years before the First World War. It is a useful record of an early twentieth-century ballpark and the everyday setting of the game.
