Fenway Park, the ballpark on Lansdowne Street in Boston's Kenmore Square neighborhood, opened in 1912 and is the oldest stadium still in use by a Major League Baseball team. Its nickname, the "Fens," comes from the marshy land it was built on, and the park's famously short left-field wall, the Green Monster, rises 37 feet and shapes the game as much as any player does. Images of the park from its early decades capture a time when the ballpark sat among streetcar lines and triple-deckers, a setting that has changed far less than the city around it.
