*Rajah* is a color poster by Privat Livemont, the Belgian-born designer (1861–1936) who became one of the leading names in Art Nouveau advertising in the 1890s. Dated 1898 and catalogued as a promotional piece, it was made to sell a product under the Rajah name, which the trade associates with cigarette papers. Like much of Livemont's work, it uses flat areas of bold color and sinuous line to catch the eye from a street wall or kiosk. The date comes from an old caption card, so it is worth checking against other sources.
