Few pictures from the National Photo Company's Washington-area work capture a county event as directly as this 1928 glass negative of the Rockville Fair in Maryland. The company, a commercial photography firm active in the District of Columbia in the early twentieth century, documented fairs, parades and street scenes for newspapers and private clients, and its plates were often made quickly to meet demand. Because this is a glass negative rather than a print, the original image is the plate itself, and visible streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of its coating over the decades. The title was supplied by the company and has not been independently verified.
