Aerial views of the Bethesda countryside from the mid-1910s are uncommon, which makes this one worth a closer look. The title names the Congressional Country Club, but the club was not founded until the 1920s, so the label probably reflects the site's later name and should be read with that in mind. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, made the glass negative, which Herbert A. French donated in 1947. The streaks and blemishes on the plate come from the gradual deterioration of its original coating.
