The *Massachusetts Spy* reported the Boston Tea Party in its December 23, 1773 issue, one week after colonists boarded ships in Boston Harbor and dumped their cargo of East India Company tea into the water. The paper was printed in Boston by Isaiah Thomas, whose weekly was openly sympathetic to the colonial resistance to the Tea Act and to Parliament's claim to tax the colonies. Colonial printers often used their front pages to rally readers, and this issue shows how quickly news of the protest traveled from the waterfront into print.
