The second page of *The Massachusetts Spy* for December 23, 1773, carries news of the Boston Tea Party only a week after the event. The paper was printed by Isaiah Thomas, whose press took a firm patriot line against the Tea Act and the East India Company's tea shipments. On the night of December 16, colonists disguised as Mohawks boarded three ships at Griffin's Wharf and emptied some 342 chests of tea into the harbor. Reading the report in print shows how quickly the protest became a public story that colonists across the region could follow.
