A farmer in the white cotton clothing typical of rural Korea guides an ox pulling a plow near Seoul in this stereograph, one of many views of distant lands sold to American parlors around 1901. The card was copyrighted by B.L. Singley and published by the Keystone View Company, whose stereoscope cards let viewers see these scenes in apparent three dimensions. Plowing with draft oxen and simple wooden plows was the common method of cultivation across Korea at the time, so the picture documents a farming routine that had changed little for generations.
