Printed in New York in 1917 by M. Rusling Wood, this color lithograph presents Italy's emblem at a large 51 by 51 centimeters. Its copyright notice names a Committee of Citizens, a reminder that many American wartime posters came from private groups rather than government agencies. Italy had joined the Allies in 1915, and by 1917 Americans were being encouraged to see each Allied nation as part of a shared cause. Posters like this one used national symbols to make that alliance visible at a glance.
