The record names only Harry Barnhart, and the title comes from caption cards and negative sleeves that the Bain News Service supplied, so the identification is unverified. The George Grantham Bain Collection holds some 40,000 glass negatives from the New York agency, which sold news pictures of people, events and places to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its small glass plates were the working medium of press photographers of that era, and many of the portraits were made for quick publication. Anyone researching this sitter should check the caption cards and related Bain entries for the context of the original assignment.
