Wickersham, a New York lawyer, is shown in this 1929 portrait, a studio-style head-and-shoulders view issued by Underwood & Underwood, a news photo agency that supplied images to newspapers across the country. He had served as U.S. Attorney General under President William Howard Taft from 1909 to 1913. Later that same year he was appointed to chair the National Commission on Law Observance and Enforcement, which studied Prohibition and is widely called the Wickersham Commission. The date comes from an unverified caption card, so it is worth checking against other sources.
