Save Niagara Falls -- from this" is the caption that gives this color lithograph its point, and the blank word "this" leaves the threat for viewers to supply. Readers of 1906 would have been thinking about hydroelectric companies diverting water from the cataract and about commercial crowding along the gorge. The cartoon ran in *Puck*, the weekly known for pointed color lithographs on public questions, and it was printed by J. Ottmann's lithograph house. It joins the early push to treat the falls as public scenery rather than private opportunity. New York had already made its Niagara land a state reservation in 1885, the first state park in the nation.
