Set on the Mall in Central Park, this 1936 poster promotes a harvest festival with dancers, one of the many events the Federal theater Project staged to bring live performance into public spaces during the Depression. It was printed in silkscreen, a method the Works Progress Administration's poster units used because it produced bold, flat color on inexpensive paper. A June 1937 date stamped on the back suggests the board stayed in circulation or storage well after it was first made. The subject tags also list dancers, a reminder that much of the Federal theater's work depended on movement and spectacle as well as drama.
