Rather than a station or street scene, this stereograph shows a Chicago and North-Western Railway train loaded with logs, photographed in a yard whose location the record does not confirm. The card was copyrighted by Underwood & Underwood, a firm that sold stereoscopic views to households across the United States in the early twentieth century, and the caption tracings point to Indiana lumber. In the 1900s, rail lines like the North-Western moved timber from northern forests to sawmills and distribution yards, so the scene reflects how central lumber was to the Midwestern economy and to Chicago's role as a rail hub.
