The Jacques theater stood on East Main Street, opposite School Street, in Waterbury, Connecticut, and this ink drawing records the building as it was planned in 1930. The sheet comes from the Library of Congress's architectural and engineering drawings, a collection that preserves plans for buildings across the country. The Jacques was one of the motion picture houses that spread through American cities in the late 1920s and early 1930s, when sound film drew crowds into large, decorated auditoriums. Because the drawing shows the street frontage and interior arrangement, it offers a useful view of how such theaters were laid out to move audiences in and out.
