Made before the gates opened, this bird's-eye view presents the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition as a planned city of pavilions, walkways, and gardens, rather than a record of the fair itself. The exposition ran from June to November 1898 in Omaha, Nebraska, and was meant to show the resources and growth of the country west of the Mississippi River at a time when the region was still often seen as frontier. Its engraving was produced by the Werner Company, a Chicago firm that made many such promotional aerial views for fairs and cities. Looking closely, viewers can see how organizers laid out the grounds to display exhibit halls and recreation areas for a large public audience.
