Few group portraits from the early 1900s bring together so many future leaders of their fields. Taken in September 1909 at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, it records a celebration of the psychology department held during the university's twentieth anniversary. Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and William James appear among the group, along with Sándor Ferenczi, Franz Boas, Ernest Jones, and A. A. Brill. Freud's lectures at Clark, delivered to an American audience that fall, helped introduce psychoanalysis to the United States.
