The interior of Santa Ana Church, near Manila, was converted into a field hospital during the fighting in the Philippines, and this stereograph shows its interior as a place of care for the wounded. Strohmeyer & Wyman of New York issued the card around 1899, and it was meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, which gave the room a sense of depth. Such views were popular with American audiences after the Spanish-American War, when the conflict in the Philippines brought distant battlefields and their aftermath into parlors.
