Taken on July 12, 1929, this glass negative pairs President Herbert Hoover with the Federal Farm Board, which Congress had created that summer under the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1929 to steady farm prices through cooperative marketing. The title comes from the National Photo Company's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the exact occasion is best treated as provisional. The company was a Washington news studio whose glass plates record the capital's officials and events in the late 1920s and 1930s. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes across the surface, typical of the coating breakdown that affects glass negatives of this age.
