A color lithograph printed in Brussels in 1897, this poster advertises Rajah tea, a name that evokes the princely courts of India. Henri Meunier is credited as its artist, and the Gouweloos firm printed it at a time when Belgium was a lively center of European poster design. By the late 1890s tea was becoming a everyday drink in many European households, and merchants used bold, eye-catching posters like this one to set their brands apart on crowded city walls.
