Few pictures in the Currier & Ives output announce their subject as plainly as this 1881 lithograph, whose title, *Delicious Coffee!*, reads like a sales pitch. The New York firm produced inexpensive prints for a broad middle-class market, with subjects ranging from landscapes and sporting scenes to comic and domestic themes. Coffee was an everyday staple in American households by the early 1880s, so a print celebrating it would have appealed to ordinary buyers. The exclamation point is worth noticing, as it gives the print the enthusiastic tone of a commercial pitch.
