A fire at 1210 G Street Northwest in downtown Washington, D.C., is the subject of this glass negative, which the record links to Harry C. Grover, though that title comes from information the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified. The company, active in the capital in the early twentieth century, produced a large body of street and building views for sale to the public. The negative is dated only to a span between 1918 and 1928, so it offers a glimpse of downtown commercial life in those years. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of its original coatings.
