This 1887 bird's-eye view shows Goffstown, a town in southern New Hampshire on the Piscataquog River, drawn as though seen from an elevated vantage point above its streets and farms. The panorama was created by George E. Norris and printed by the Burleigh lithography firm, part of a wave of town views produced across New England in the 1870s and 1880s. Such maps were usually commissioned with the help of local subscribers, so they often include churches, mills, schools, and private homes, giving a detailed picture of how a small mill town looked at the time.
