Antrim, a small town in the hills of southern New Hampshire, is shown here in a bird's-eye panorama from 1887, drawn from an angled, elevated viewpoint that lets the viewer see roofs, streets and fields at once. George E. Norris produced many such town views in the 1870s and 1880s, and this lithograph was printed by the Burleigh firm. Panoramic maps like this one were commissioned by local residents and sold to households and businesses, so they serve as a detailed record of how a community looked and what it valued in the late nineteenth century.
