This portrait shows comedian Sid Caesar in a half-length pose, facing right, with a saxophone in hand, a reminder that music came before comedy for him. Caesar played saxophone in dance bands and served in the Coast Guard band during World War II before turning to comedy. By 1955 he was among television's biggest stars, having led the sketch series *Your Show of Shows* on NBC. The photograph comes from the Look Magazine collection, which documented the entertainers and public figures of the era for a wide general readership.
