The message on this poster is spelled out in its title: lack of money should not keep anyone from competent medical care, and readers are urged to consult their health officer. Made in 1936 in silkscreen color, it came from the Federal Art Project, a unit of the Works Progress Administration that employed artists during the Depression to make posters for public agencies. Campaigns like this one addressed a time when many New Yorkers delayed seeing a doctor because they could not pay for one. A date stamp on the back, July 18, 1939, suggests the sheet was filed or circulated in that year.
