The slogan on this poster turns the language of labor disputes toward infant care: a helpless baby cannot go on strike, so its health depends on the adults around it. Strikes were a common part of the news in the 1930s, which gave the wordplay a pointed edge for a public audience. The Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project employed artists across the country to make posters on public health and civic themes, and this one was produced in Rochester, New York, with a silkscreen process that allowed for bold flat color. A date stamp on the back, November 8, 1938, suggests when it circulated.
