A girl whose name the caption gives as Tersea carries a peck of cranberries, about 15 pounds, to the "bushel man," the buyer who took the berries by the bushel. Lewis Hine photographed her at Forsythe's Bog in Turkeytown, near Pemberton, New Jersey, on September 29, 1910, and noted that her age was unknown. Hine was then documenting child labor for the National Child Labor Committee, and autumn cranberry harvests drew families and their children into the bogs. The caption's witness, E. F. Brown, is named as a second source for the scene.
