This color lithograph advertises Alice Brown's *Meadow Grass*, a collection of New England stories published in 1895 and priced at $1.50 net, and its tree-filled landscape echoes the rural settings she wrote about. The design is signed "Rhead," most likely Louis Rhead, an English-born illustrator who worked in America in the 1890s and produced many publishers' posters and book covers. The printing came from Geo. H. Walker & Co. of Boston, a firm known for color lithographs promoting the city's literary publishers. Look closely at how the image uses broad, simplified shapes, a style that made late-nineteenth-century poster art readable from a distance.
