Taken at South Side Park, the White Sox's home ground on Chicago's South Side, this panorama records a City Championship series game between the Cubs and the White Sox on October 9, 1909. The two Chicago clubs met in a local postseason series that autumn, while the national World Series involved other teams, so the games carried real civic rivalry. The print was made by the Geo. R. Lawrence Co., a firm known for wide-format views, and its 12 by 30 inch size lets the viewer take in the whole field and grandstands at once.
