This panoramic group portrait shows the players and staff gathered for the opening game of the first Colored World Series, held in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 11, 1924. The series pitted the champions of Black professional baseball against one another, at a time when Black players were barred from the major leagues and had built their own circuits of teams, parks, and fans. The photograph was taken by a Kansas City studio, with the photographer's name partly legible on the original caption. Its wide format and posed arrangement show how teams of the era marked important occasions, and the image now stands as a record of a championship that was largely absent from mainstream sports coverage.
