Few ballparks are as tied to early Chicago baseball as West Side Park, the Cubs' home grounds on the city's West Side from 1893 until 1915. Seeing the White Sox and Cubs meet there in 1909 shows how the two clubs shared a city and a rivalry long before the modern crosstown series. Panoramic views like this one were a popular way to capture a whole crowd and the length of the field at once, so the picture also records how fans packed the stands and how the park was laid out in that era.
